In the Heat of Ahmedabad (Pictures added)

Daniel I'm finally there - at the hottest place in India. I have no idea how hot it really is, all the weather reports on the internet give different temperatures. I believe it must be around 45`C, that's about 112'F.

But to give you a better description, it's so hot that you have trouble thinking -- especially the autorickshah drivers are hit really hard by this and they are more confused than usually, always taking you to the wrong end of the city.

Ahmedabad is the city of Mahatma Ghandi's Ashram (MG Ashram, a little comunnity founded by MG, dedicated to physical labour and whatever his other ideas were) and the India Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmdabad, India's best business school.

Visiting the IIM, I was kind of disappointed because it's currently a vacation period and the students won't return until June 12. But the exchange student office was really helpful and gave me the contact data of former exchange students. I hope tto find out if it's worthwile to do an exchange semester here...

Besides the MG Ashram and the IIM, Ahmedabad has a beautiful old city, which is about 400 yars old. A guided tour really gave me a good idea of the way people lived back then. A small group of houses (called "pol") formed a small society and was acessible from the main road only through a single, well defended gate. There were about 7000 pols in Ahmedabad before the British tore the gates and some houses down to build roads through the city. Pols had a single shared well, some "birdfeeders" (It's so hot that there are not enough trees here. So they built little huts on poles, which held feeding dishes for birds.) and sometimes secret passages connecting them to other pols.
